Salted fish hot pot
Can Tho and Mekong Delta provinces have preferential nature of fish, so every year in the flood season, the people of the South keep a large of fresh fish with salt to become salted fish saving for the sunny season. Salted fish has strong smell, characteristic and can be processed into many different dishes.
Among many types of hotpot in Can Tho, salted fish hotpot – called Lau mam in Vietnamese is one of the most famous hotpots. Soup for salted fish hotpot is cooked from sweetness of the freshwater fish, shrimp, squid, snail…, salted fish, and coconut juice.
It is served with more than 20 kinds of vegetables in the garden and rivers or lakes. Virtually all restaurants in Can Tho are serving salted fish hotpot, in which Da Ly and Cay Buoi 2 are favorite places to many people.
