CHOPSTICKS IN VIET NAM- MEKONG ECO TOUR

While fork, spoon and knife are must at dinning table in most of countries all over the world, chopsticks are could not be missed to have meal in some Asian countries such as China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam… You may have used this kind of eating utensil or seen them on television. Vietnamese people eat and cook most of foods by chopsticks: steamed rice, noodles, cakes. Invented over 2000 years ago, chopsticks are shaped pairs of equal-length sticks. Chopsticks can be made from metal (gold, silver, stainless steel…), plastic, wood, bamboo and painted and decorated dedicatedly. They are about 25 cm long and 0.5 cm thick. Chopsticks used for cooking are longer and thicker so that they help cook to prevent overheating her hands from the stove.

Children are taught to tuck in their foods by chopsticks since they are young and no Vietnamese could not use chopsticks which are things they must use every day. On your trip to Vietnam, you will be served a lot of delicious foods with chopsticks. As a foreigner coming to Vietnam, it is very interesting to learn how to use chopsticks to tuck in Vietnamese foods. To use chopsticks, the lower chopstick is stationary, and rests at the base of the thumb, and between the ring finger and middle finger. The second chopstick is held like a pencil, using the tips of the thumb, index finger, and middle finger, and it is moved while eating, to pull food into the grasp of the chopsticks.

A beautifully decorated pair of chopsticks will be a good gift from Vietnam. These chopsticks are often wrapped carefully in box and tied together with a bow. You can buy them easily in souvenir shops in most major destinations.
